Week 1

All about Bears

If you go down to the woods today, you may find the reception children starting their new topic - which is learning all about bears. What a huge and wonderful topic this is; from amazing stories to famous bears and looking at all the places that bears live. We are very excited as this topic means we get to go on our very own bear hunt, as well as have our own teddy bear picnic and learn about nature at College Lake.

So let's get going and watch out for the BEARS!

Phonics: We begin with reviewing our phase 3 sounds and reading words containing them. We are now starting to write sentences so please do practise writing short phrases or captions at home. If you notice that your child finds this challenging, come and speak with their teacher who will be happy to help. There are no new tricky words this half term so it is a great chance to review the ones we have learned so far especially if you are taking part in the Sponsored Tricky Word Challenge!

Literacy: We look at the classic tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and create a story map and then have a go at retelling the story ourselves.

Topic: It is Pancake Day on Tuesday 21st February so what better place to begin than with learning all about how Pancake Day is celebrated around the UK.

Maths: Looking at the numbers 6, 7 and 8.
