Lesson Three

Wondrous Wednesday folks. Today we are reviewing DIVISION.  Remember another word often used for division questions is SHARE or SHARED.

STARTER: Lets sing our 3x table rap that we learnt on Monday.

Task One:

Review how to share/divide a number.    Gather 10 Lego  brick or pieces of pasta.  Now lets share them out between two people.   The number sentence would be 10 + 2 =

Remember to take one brick and place it on one man, then one onto the other man and then repeat until you have none left!

Now try doing these practically first.  Draw 2 circles first.

12 + 2 =                  6 + 2 =                       8 + 2 =

You'll need to draw five circles this time.

10 + 5 =            15 + 5 =                           20 + 5 =

How many circles will you need to draw for these?

12 + 3 =             15 + 3 =                  18 + 3

Task two:

Remember we talked about multiplication was commutative.  We could "Flip it" and get the same answer.

e.g. 3 x 5 = 15  and 5 x 3 = 15.   Well just like subtraction we cannot do this for division.

so lets take this multiplication calculation and show the division.

3 x 5 = 15

5 x 3 = 15

15 + 5 = 3

15 + 3 = 5

Notice how we put the larger number first for division.

So now take the multiplications from above and show the division for them.

Task three:

I have found different work sheets for division.  You DO NOT have to print them off as you can read them from the screen if you don't have a printer.  Choose one or two that will challenge you.

Anya used Lego to help her divide!
