Today lets look at fractions as word problems.

First of all, as a starter, practise counting in halves (1/2) . So you will start 1/2, 1, 1 1/2, 2, 2 1/2 etc

Then try counting up in quarters (1/4) . so you will start 1/4, 1/2 , 3/4, 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2 etc. You will need to remember that 2/4 is the SAME as 1/2.

Have a look at these word problems:

Lola (from Angola!) has 12 skittles. She eats a 1/4 of them. How many skittles did Lola (from Angola!) eat?

Now have a go at these word problems. When you have done then, try making your own one and sending it to friend or ask a family member to work it out. Remember you might have to explain your answers if it's a true or false question.
