We are almost at the end of our Magical Minibeasts topic and what a wonderful learning journey it was. We have discovered so many things and read lots of minibeasts related books (fiction and non fiction). We have been watching our little caterpillars grow bigger by the day and hopefully they will transform into butterflies before half term! We went on our school trip and got to touch/stroke some interesting creatures (a Madagascan hissing cockroach, a Tenrec and an African millipede).
This week we will be completing our topic and as it is the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, we will be learning about the Queen and her life as well as her long reign.
Phonics:
We will be reviewing the phase 3 long vowel sounds and phase 2 digraphs. The tricky words this week are: there, when, what, one.
Literacy:
We will be looking at a range of non fiction books about minibeasts and learning to read and write facts. We will also look at the life of Queen Elizabeth II in relation to the Platinum Jubilee.
Maths:
We will have a look at time and measurement this week and review days of the week and touch on months of the year.
Topic:
We will focus on the life of the Queen and timeline of her reign.
The Butterflies have emerged from their chrysalides.
Some of the photos from our Jubilee picnic and day.
Painted Lady butterfly emerging from chrysalis
The last chrysalis hung on the lid and this morning (5.6.22), it gave a wiggle and hello little one! It has been filmed on time-lapse that is why it looks so quick. It actually took longer than that. All four butterflies are out and hopefully we can let them go very soon.
