Week 4

We enjoyed our walk around Prestwood last week and are looking forward to using our experiences in our learning about different places.

We have been learning a song each week during snack time as it is a known fact that children who know at least 8 nursery rhymes or songs off by heart by the age of 4, are amongst the best at spelling and reading by Year 3. Last week we sang The Big Ship Sailed and this week we will be singing Bobby Shaftoe. You can find these on You tube or BBC Teach. If you click on the song titles - they will take you to the song. Do have a go and encourage singing at home.

Phonics: This week, we learn the digraphs air and er as well as double letters: dd, mm, tt, bb, rr, gg, pp, ff. The new tricky words are 'are, sure and pure'.

English: We carry on looking at the story "Catch that Goat" (see book cover above) and having learned the story from the text map, we move on to innovating the story. This step in the Talk For Writing scheme means that we will change one aspect of the story to make it our own. Maybe the children can retell you the new version at home.

Maths: We move on now to looking at numbers 6,7 and 8. So far we have really been trying to know the numbers 0-5 inside out. We will explore the numbers 6, 7 and 8 and their composition. We consolidate 1 more and 1 less for each number. You could try this at home. e.g. drop 6 conkers onto a tray. Notice how they fall...is there a group of 2 and a group of 4? So now you know 2 and 4 make 6. How many different ways can you find?
