Week 3

Well, we are moving through this half term rapidly; the beans that we sowed are beginning to emerge with small shoots and roots and the caterpillars are huge so hopefully they will transform into chrysalides very soon. We are also growing and changing along with our topic and looking forward to see what wonderful things will happen this week.

Phonics: This week we review the phase 2 digraphs (ck, sh. th, ch, ng, nk) and the phase 3 long vowel digraphs (ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, oi, ear, air and er). We look at reading longer words and introduce the new Tricky Words: were, here, little, says.

Literacy: Last week we listened to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk by Carly Gledhill, we looked at the text map then we memorised the story using actions to help us. This week, we innovate the story which means we will change some aspects of it using our own ideas.

Maths: We revisit shapes. We know how to identify 2D and 3D shapes along with some of their characteristics. Over this week we will look at choosing shapes for a purpose - creating pictures or objects using 2D and 3D shapes, rotating shapes (understanding that it is still the same despite the rotation) and manipulating them, explaining arrangements of shapes and composing shapes (a bit like Tetris). We are going to be very busy!

Song of the week: Rock a bye Baby

Also this week: It is World Dance Day 29th April and Passover continues from 22nd April to 30th April.

Note for parents: When dropping your little ones off in the morning, please do drop them off at the gate. Our grown ups will take good care of them and we will be happy to get the office to call you once your child has come in and settled in. We are here to help to support you and the children.

Have a look at our learning this week.
