Week 3

This is our third exciting week of Autumn term and we are exploring the topic of celebrations. After Bonfire Night and Birthdays we are now looking at Diwali - the Festival of Lights. The eternal battle of good versus evil and the celebration of light overcoming darkness!

Happily for us Mrs Smith is a Hindu so we get first hand information about this festival. As well as finding out the different ways that Hindus celebrate Diwali, we also had a Diwali Day where we learned some amazing Bollywood style  Diwali dances, we had a look at real Diwali clothes and tasted some festival food. We made some rangoli patterns and we all made a clay diva. We are going to wait for these to dry and paint them next week. We also had a go at designing our own mendhi patterns and making Diwali cards. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita and found out why Hindus actually celebrate Diwali.

Look out for the photos to come!
