Week 2

The children have settled in well back into school and are really enjoying our new topic 'Growing and Changing'. They came up with some amazing ideas of what the 'magic' beans could be and are excited to see what the beans they planted will grow into, from enormous trees to potatoes. The caterpillars have grown a lot and have definitely been a talking point with the children.

Phonics: We continue with phase 4, looking at short vowel sounds in CVCC words and learning new tricky words which will be some, come, love and do. We will also continue to practice the trickier digraphs and digraphs, such as, air, ai, ur and er.

Literacy: We planted our 'magic' beans last week and this week the children will be writing instructions of how we planted them. We will also start to learn our new story with actions too.

Maths: We will be looking at addition and subtraction, using vocabulary such as 'altogether, first, then and now.' The children will be thinking about how many there were to start with and how many have been added or subtracted from the origional number given. This can be done at home too using objects from around the house, anything from toy cars to dried pasta.

Song of the week - Oats and beans and barley

Also this week: We will look at Earth Day and Penguin Day - how exciting!
