Today, in our live lesson, we will be looking at using our number bonds to 10 and 20 to solve problems. 

 

You may need a 100 square or some pasta/lego pieces to help you.

 

Using number bonds to help solve problems: 

 

7 + 4 = 

 

We can use our number bond knowledge to help us solve problems. What number goes with 7 to make 10? The answer is 3. 

7 + 3 = 10 and there is 1 left over. So now we can take that 10 and add the remaining 1 to get the answer 10 + 1 = 11.

Here is another example using our number bonds to 20. 

 

14 + 8 =

 

What number goes with 4 to make 10? The answer is 6. 14 + 6 = 20. We now have 2 left over so we add them to 20. 20 + 2 = 22.
