Maths

Today, in our live lesson, we are going to be learning to recognise halves, quarters, one third and two thirds of shapes.

A half of a shape is when it is split into two equal parts. See the examples below.

A quarter of a shape is when it is split into 4 equal parts. See the examples below.

To find two quarters of a shape we would shade in 2 out of the 4 quarters. To find three quarters of a shape we would shade in 3 out of the 4 quarters. See the examples below.

We will go through more examples together in the live lesson.

We will also be looking at thirds. This is when a shape is split into three equal parts. We will be finding one third and two thirds of a shape by shading in one or two parts of each shape.

Your Missions

Mild - Read and color in the correct fractions.

Hot - Draw a line matching each shape to the correct fraction and then colour in the correct fraction underneath.

Spicy -  Sheet 1 - How many different ways can you find to colour a half and a quarter?

             Sheet 2 - Recognising a third challenges

Have fun!
